Dragon Soul Press had the opportunity to interview Cathy Dyer, an author featured in To Hunt and To Hold, A Winter Promise, and Digital Love.
- Introduce yourself.
- I’m Cathy and I live in Lincolnshire, England with my husband Phil, and our
spoiled black cat Sirius (guilty, I’m a Harry Potter fan). I have a full-time job,
working in private healthcare as a senior business analyst. I would love to say
that in my spare time I enjoy exercise, socialising and being outdoors but in
reality, I’m a total introvert and can probably be found indoors reading a good
book.

- What prompted you to begin writing?
- I’ve written stories for as long as I can remember; inspired from a young age by
my Grandad, who verbally told me stories whenever I asked him to. I’m sure this
is where my love of stories began, and my imagination was kickstarted!

- Do you have a favorite story or poem you’ve written? What’s it about?
- My first published piece was a poem called My Dog Rebel which I wrote at
Primary School; I’m not sure it counts as my first success as such, because all of
my class had their poems published in an anthology, but nevertheless, seeing my
work in print inspired me!

- How many projects do you have planned over the next few years? Tell us about one.
- I have a novel which is fully drafted, but needs a lot of editing work so that is
definitely on my list of writing projects. I also have lots of ideas floating around in
my brain/OneNote/Notes app/random notebooks and scraps of paper for other
novels, and my plan is to soon start planning and prepping for this year’s
NaNoWriMo. I did NaNoWriMo last year, and drafted the novel mentioned above;
it’s a great motivator for getting words on the page!

- What is your writing process like?
- Variable. Some days I write 2-3k words, other days – or even weeks – none.
Sometimes other things have to take priority, but I know I’ll always get back to
writing eventually. I have learnt that I am definitely a planner. Even for short
stories, I need a high-level outline before I can start actually writing. I’m still
refining my planning process for novels; I’ll let you know how that looks after
NaNoWriMo!

- Where do you draw inspiration from?
- Everywhere! It could be a line from a song, or a snippet of conversation
overheard on a train…

- Who is your favorite author / what is your favorite book?
- This is such a tricky question to answer, as my taste in books (and music,
coincidentally) is so diverse! If I had to pick one favourite book it would have to
be Flowers in the Attic by Virginia Andrews. I read this when I was around 12/13
(yes, probably too young…) and it opened my eyes to romance, and forbidden
love and perhaps that’s why I love dark romance today. My favourite author
currently is Sarah J Maas; I think her world building is phenomenal.

- What is one goal you have for your writing future?
- Enjoy the process and write what I would want to read.
- What do you hope readers enjoy most from your work?
- My at times twisted imagination?
- Where can readers learn more about you?
- I’m on ‘Bookstagram’ and Facebook as

in touch!
