Author interview with Robert Boyd

Dragon Soul Press took the opportunity to interview Robert Boyd, an author featured in A Winter Promise anthology.

  1. Introduce yourself.
    • Hello! I’m Robert Boyd. I’m a native New Yorker trying as hard as I can to live my best life.
  2. What prompted you to begin writing?
    • I have always been drawn to creative fields. First, it was fashion, then interior design. Writing organically unfolded to become my next passion. I write mostly LGBTQ-themed holiday romance stories. I’m crazy about Christmas, so it made sense for that to be my backdrop.
  3. Do you have a favorite story or poem that you’ve written? What’s it about?
    • Yes, it’s a screenplay titled “Holiday Daddies”. An interfaith couple—two men—experience heartache over the holidays when their baby adoption falls through, creating an avalanche of friction and uncertainty, which only intensifies when a new “straight” friend with suspicious intentions moves in, making the couple question if they’ll even stay together, let alone become fathers.
  4. How many projects do you have planned over the next few years? Tell us about one.
    • I have a handful of projects. One is another short story. It’s a Christmas romance between a widower with two young sons and a man who recently suffered a difficult break-up. Their first few interactions are not at all friendly, but it’s not long before they fall hard for each other. That is, until unexpected feelings and emotions threaten to come between them. The question is, can they salvage what they had and become the new family they all hoped to be?
  5. What is your writing process like?
    • I pretty much have a general outline before I begin a story, but so much of the plot comes to me as I’m typing away. It’s like I “discover” what happens minute-by-minute.
  6. Where do you draw inspiration from?
    • Life, love, family, Christmas, New York.
  7. Who is your favorite author / what is your favorite book?
    • My favorite author is Agatha Christie because her writing is clever and cunning, and she communicates with the reader as if she’s having a conversation with them. My favorite book is “Social Crimes” by Jane Stanton Hitchcock. It was released back in 2002. It’s about the rise, fall and rise of a New York socialite. There’s plenty of glamour and fabulousness, but it’s really about deceit, betrayal, loyalty, survival, triumph and a healthy dose of plotting.
  8. What is one goal you have for your writing future?
    • That’s easy: To sell a screenplay.
  9. What do you hope readers enjoy most from your work?
    • That love prevails. That happiness can be a reality even after heartache and darkness.
  10. Where can readers learn more about you?
