Dragon Soul Press had the opportunity to interview Emma Laurent, an author featured in the Soul Ink: Volume One anthology.

- Introduce yourself.
- I’m Emma. I write essays, poetry, and spooky stories. I was born and raised in Sheridan, Wyoming, but am currently moonlighting in Washington, D.C. where I’m a disgraced political operative.
- What prompted you to begin writing?
- A deep, psychological belief that what I have to say is not only important but very, very witty.
- How many projects do you have planned over the next few years? Tell us about one.
- So many – all brilliant – and am looking for a benefactor who would love to sponsor a single white woman in her 30s with only two cats.
- What is your writing process like?
- Usually a lot grief over dying dreams or tears of frustration about hypocritical institutions. When I can’t put my anger or sadness in a coherent sentence, it becomes a poem. For other prose and articles, it’s a lot of self-flagellation about how lazy I am and if only I worked harder I wouldn’t be such a loser. A lot of naps and whining about how the world is against me. A lot of day dreaming about meeting David Lynch on a random corner and becoming artistic partners. And somewhere in there I squeeze out a few good lines that I can never look at again.
- Where do you draw inspiration from?
- Cellar door.
- Who is your favorite author / what is your favorite book?
- Salem’s Lot – Stephen King.
- What is one goal you have for your writing future?
- It pays my bills. And – that it’s actually – not dog shit.
- What do you hope readers enjoy most from your work?
- That something – one line – one feeling – is relatable to their humanoid experience. And that they think the piece (aka me) is smart.
- Where can readers learn more about you?
