Dragon Soul Press took the time to interview Tim Anderson, an author featured in The Hunt anthology.

I am a former daily newspaper journalistand PR manager who started writing fiction four years ago. Since then I have had more than 50 stories placed in a wide variety of
genres and publications.
- What prompted you to begin writing?
- I have always written as part of my job but after retiring I decided to start writing fiction. I have also read widely and eclectically throughout my life – about three books a week
since joining the local library at eight – and wanted to see if I could give other people the same pleasure as I have had.

- Do you have a favorite story or poem you’ve written? What’s it about?
- I love all of the things I have written for different reasons as I generally try to do something different story. Some are (fairly) straightforward genre pieces while others are experimental based on some of the avant garde writers I like.
- How many projects do you have planned over the next few years? Tell us about one.
- I have a couple of novels in the editing stage and several pages of story ideas with their
research notes. One of the novels is a science fantasy set in an alternative 1897 Paris
where a group of young friends including the playwrite Alfred Jarry and the adopted
daughter of Annie Oakley face terrorists, monarchist conspirators and occultists trying to
destroy the Communal government.

- What is your writing process like?
- I tend to have a feel for the “shape” of the story which I then whittle away at as I write it.
This generally includes the main characters and some key scenes, but I don’t plan out
the whole thing. It will change as I write and as I do bits and pieces of fill in research as I
go.

- Where do you draw inspiration from?
- The back stories of the characters tend to come from the lives of myself and friends and
family placed in a setting that can come from almost anywhere -a title or first line that
pops into my head, a submission opportunity prompt, a side thought on something I am
reading. I am writing a story currently based on an anthology looking for gothic fiction.
The title “The Usher of Fall House” popped into my head and the story flowed from
there.

- Who is your favorite author / what is your favorite book?
- A bit like my favourite of my own writing, this changes day by day depending on my
mood. I love lots of authors from the French avant garde tradition – especially Jarry – as
well as many post modernists, and within genres I love mostly authors who draw
inspiration from outside their own genre.

- What is one goal you have for your writing future?
- To get some of the novels published.
- What do you hope readers enjoy most from your work?
- The characters, the ideas and the jokes.
- Where can readers learn more about you?
